In order to separate a voter’s identity from their vote, ballots undergo a mixing process before decryption. Mixing takes place in a mix-net (mix network), a series of servers which take in multiple messages and send them out re-encrypted and in a random order.
Online ballots are first stripped of any information tying them to a voter and are then shuffled and re-encrypted multiple times. The result is an entirely random list of votes that can in no way be tied back to the individual voters who sent them.

- We evaluated Scytl’s online voting option based on the following criteria: ease of use, flexibility, speed, process and turn-around time for providing the auditor the necessary reports. Scytl’s online voting solution 100% met these requirements during our evaluation. This election went very well. As a result, the DGC is now strongly considering replacing all paper ballot elections with online voting during future AGM elections.
